Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial, Belgium
The cemetery from the Second World War, located in the northeastern part of the country, on an area of about 25 ha. The official opening of the cemetery took place at the beginning of the XXth century. The necropolis is divided into two parts: a Jewish and a military one, with the graves of over 1,000 Belgian soldiers and over 1,500 soldiers and officers of the Commonwealth military units who died during the First and Second World Wars. Several dozen soldiers of the allied forces from France, Italy, Poland and Russia are also buried here. The ashes of German soldiers - victims of both world wars were handed over to the German authorities. The necropolis was built according to the plan of the famous Hamburg cemetery. The area around Schonselhof has been declared a landscape monument and the cemetery has been granted the status of a natural monument. The cemetery attracts thousands of tourists every year, who admire its magnificent historical appearance and well-groomed landscape.
