National Martyrs Cemetery, North Korea
Revolutionary Memorial Cemetery is a memorial to North Korean soldiers fighting for freedom and independence against Japanese rule. It is located 10 kilometers northeast of Pyongyang on the Chuchjak hill of Taesong Mountain. The cemetery with hundreds of tombs was completed in the second half of the XXth century, later reconstructed and expanded. At present 2020 yer, it covers an area of about 30 ha and several hundred burials. The entrance to the cemetery is marked with a monumental Korean-style gate. The cemetery consists of a gate, pillars in the form of a stone tower, a sculptural ensemble, an excursion site, a site with busts of the fallen revolutionaries. No less important and very attractive near the cemetery is the Central Botanical Garden, where kimirsenhwa and kimchenirhwa flowers are grown in greenhouses, a small amusement park and the Gwangbop Buddhist temple. Due to the charismatic politics of the country, this place is not accessible to most tourists.
