North Municipal Cemetery in Warsaw, Poland
Huge necropolis. Northern Communal Cemetery in Warsaw, one of the largest cemeteries in terms of area in Poland and Europe (about 150 ha in 2020), located in the northern part of Warsaw. In the 1960s, there was a shortage of free places for burials in the existing cemeteries in Warsaw, and the number of places recovered did not meet the demand. Therefore, it was decided to build a new cemetery, which will provide a place after death for the inhabitants of Warsaw and the surrounding area for several years. Here, tens of thousands of ornamental trees and shrubs were planted, and over hundreds of km of roads and alleys were built, as well as body storage rooms and a crematorium. The necropolis is a communal cemetery and people of all beliefs and faiths can be buried there. As of 2020, about 200,000 people are buried here.
